O amor e a amizade excluem-se um ao outro. Aquele que teve a experiência de um grande amor descuida a amizade; e quem se esgotou na amizade ainda não fez nada para o amor.
O amor começa pelo amor, e só se passaria da mais forte amizade para um amor fraco. Nada se parece mais com uma viva amizade do que essas ligações que o interesse do nosso amor nos faz cultivar.
